Acura TSX 2009 - Present
The Acura TSX is an entry-level luxury car built by the Honda’s luxury brand Acura. The TSX has entered the US an Canadian market on April 2003 and since 2009 the car is available also in Mexico.
The TSX is actually a rabadged version of Honda Accord sold throughout Europe and Japan, the main differences between the two cars are in the trim levels and the quality of materials used for the interior. The TSX was offered as a replacement for the entry-level sedan Acura Integra, discontinued in 2001, and by time for the RSX, discontinued in 2006.
The first generation of the TSX, built from 2004 to 2009, was offered only with one engine, a 2.4 liter that produced a juicy 205 hp at 7000 rpm and a peak torque of 164 lb-ft available form 4500 rpm. The engine could be matted either to a five speed automatic or to a six speed manual transmission.
The current generation Acura TSX has made its debut at the 2008 New York International Auto Show, on April 2008. The new TSX has grown in size, compared to the first generation, with some 3.0 inch in width and 2.4 inches in length.
The 2010 Acura TSX is offered in two trim levels: the base and Technology Package. As fort the engine range, the TSX is available with two engines, the 2.4 liter straight four, that is rated to 201 hp, that’s 4 hp less than the first generation, but Honda says that the new engine has been reengineered and now the power distribution is made on a wider rpm range, also the new generation’s engine produces more torque, with 8 lb-ft, getting a maximum of 172 lb-ft. Beside this one, the TSX also can be purchased with a 3.5 liter V6 engine, that is rated to produce some 280 hp. Also the current generation is available in both six speed manual and five speed automatic transmissions.
The V6 is a potent engine, it sprints the car from standstill to 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds, and can cover a quarter of a mile in 14.7 seconds. On the other hand the braking is average, the car manages to get from 60 to zero in 138 ft. The fuel consumption is pretty good for the V6, in the city the car will return a fair 18 miles per gallon, on the highway ride you will get about 27 miles per gallon.
The interior of the car features standard equipment like leather seat upholstery, power driver's seat with memory, dual zone climate control, sunroof, USB port music interface and XENON headlights. If you go for the Technology Package you get extras like a navigation system real-time traffic and weather, and a 10-speaker premium sound system with DVD-audio capabilities.
The driver seat is very comfortable and with a great lateral and lower-back support. The rear seats can accommodate three average size adults, but two would be better for a more comfortable ride.
In terms of safety the Acura TSX has received five stars in all crash tests, conducted by the white coats from the federal government. The IIHS hasn’t tested the 2010 model, but the 2009 model received a top score of “Good” in frontal, side and rear impact tests. The standard safety features of the TSX include Antilock Brakes (ABS), Advanced Compatibility Engineering, six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist System automatically corrects oversteer or understeer. In 2009 Acura also added the Advanced Compatibility Engineering structure, which disperses collision force away from passengers in an accident.
