Acura ZDX 2007 - Present
The ZDX is one of Acura’s mid-size luxury crossovers. The car is a beautifully styles combo of crossover, sports coupe, sedan and SUV, becoming Acura’s first “four door sports coupe”. The ZDX is available only with Acura’s SH-AWD (which stands for Super Handling-All Wheel Drive).
2010 Acura ZDX is the new flagship SUV of Acura vehicle lineup and is based on the MDX and Honda Pilot. The main competitors of the Acura ZDX are the Germans BMW X6, Infiniti FX and I have to add the new Honda Crosstour, that will may still some of its potential customers.
Acura ZDX uses the same 3.7 liter V6 found on the MDX, but is tuned for this model. The engine is a very potent one producing a total of 300 hp at 6400 rpm and some 270 lb-ft at 4600 rpm. The Acura ZDX is mated to a 6-speed Sequential SportShift automatic with paddle shifters plus Grade Logic and Shift Hold Control (the grade logic will detest hill climb and maintain a low gear; the shift hold control will detest aggressive drivind and will hold a gear as much as possible) accelerates from standstill to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds, which is the same as the time needed by BMW’s X6 xDrive35i (which features a 3.0 liter twin turbo straight six, that produces 306 hp at 5800 rpm and 300 lb-ft at 1300 rpm).
The EPA fuel consumption is rated at 16 miles per gallon in the city, 22 mile per gallon on the highway and 19 miles per gallon combined, its still pretty much but its better than the BMW X6’s 15 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.
The ZDX was revealed at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. This is the first car designed at Acura’s new Design Studio in Torrance, California. The ZDX ftits very well in Acura’s lineup in terms of design, using the company’s prominent “corporare” grille and prominent shoulders, it is one of Acura’s daring design languages to date. One of the coolest parts of the car is the rear fastback appearance, which presents reduced doors when compared to the front pair of openings. The net result is a somewhat restricted entry and egress for rear seat occupants,a not to mention less than friendly accommodations for taller passengers. We do like the clever use of negative space in the black accents on each door to hide the rear door handles.
The interior of the car is gorgeous, featuring a nicely curved dash and soft natural leather, that makes the cabin to radiate high quality look and fell. Those features makes up Acura’s efforts o catch up with other luxury brands in the business, some I must say that have been bypassed. The ZDX comes in three different trim levels: base, technology package and advanced package. Some of the features that need to be mentioned are the 10 way driver’s and 8 way power front passenger seat, the full grain leather seating, dual level automatic climate control on the base model. The top of the line Advanced package will bring integrates dynamic system, blind spot information system, 6 level heated and ventilated seats, ACC, sport steering wheel.
In terms of safety the you should know that the Acura ZDX comes with Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control, 6-airbag system (which includes two front, two front side, and two side curtain airbags with coverage for the front and outboard rear seats), of course ABS with EBD and Brake Assist and a Collision Mitigation Braking System that will applies the brakes if a collision ahead is imminent.
