In 1995 Audi introduced the new A4 that shared the same platform as the fifth generation Volkswagen Passat known as the B5 platform.  The majority of Audi A4 solds in North America were equipped with Audi’s Quattro all wheel drive system but buyers could still opt for the front wheel drive version.

The Audi A4 had engines available ranging from 1.6 liter to 2.8 liter.  The 1.6 liter 8 valve SOHC produced 100 hp and 103 ft-lbs of torque.  This results in a 0-60 time of 11.6 seconds and a top speed of 119 mph.  The 1.8 liter 20 valve DOHC engine produces 123 hp and 128 ft-lbs of torque.  This results in a 0-60 time of 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 129 mph.  The 1.8 turbo came in two versions:  The 1.8T 20 valve DOHC turbo  with 150 hp and 155 ft-lbs of torque.  This resulted in a 0-60 time of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 139 mph.  The other 1.8T produced 178 hp and 173 ft-lbs of torque.  This resulted in a 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 145 mph.  The 2.4 liter V6 30 valve DOHC produces 163 hp and 170 ft-lbs of torque.  This results in a 0-60 time of 8.4 seconds.  The 2.8 liter V6 30 valve DOHC produces 190 hp and 207 ft-lbs of torque.  Resulting in a 0-60 time of 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph.

Audi offered a Sport Package that came with a 20mm lower profil thanks to performance springs and firmer shocks.  The package also included 7 spoke 16 X 7.0-inch alloy wheels that were wrapped with 205/55ZR16 Dunlop SP 8000 tires.  This package makes it a formidable opponent to the BMW 3 Series.
