Land Rover LR4 2010-Present

The Land Rover LR4 is a mid size luxury SUV with off road capabilities, manufactured by the British company Land rover. The LR4 was first introduced in 1989 and is now at its fourth generation.

The 5.0liter V8 engine is shared with Jaguar and other Land Rover models. The V8 produces 375 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This engine is a big improvement for the car, because it adds more power and thanks to new direct-injection technology, the added power doesn't take a toll on fuel economy. The average fuel economy is around 12/17 mpg city/highway and a combined fuel economy of 14 mpg. The acceleration is fast and responsive and makes you feel that you are in a much lighter vehicle. The LR4 can reach 0-60 in 7.5 second, a 1 second improvement from the last model. Thanks to a new suspension and steering the LR4 feels more car-like on the road. The car absorbs bumps much better and the steering feels natural even at high speeds. The brakes are responsive and offer a great stopping distance. The car has exceptional off-road capabilities thanks to the Terrain Response system that takes care of lifting the vehicle and tailors the throttle response and shift patterns to suit every road condition (snow, mud, rock crawling).

The overall exterior looks similar to the LR3 but with some minor changes. The Lr4 got a new grill, new headlights and taillights, the unpainted plastic on the LR3 is now painted and three color choices have been introduced from 2010, Nara Bronze, Bali Blue, and Ipanema Sand. Land Rover's Design Director, Gerry McGovern, stated: ‘They look the way they do because of what they do’, and we can say that he is right.

Te interior greatly improved an is now more comfortable. All the materials used are of high quality and they surely make the car look much more luxurious than its predecessor. The central console was improved as well, everything is much more simple now with fewer buttons controlling more features. The confusing infotainment has been replaced with a touch screen unit, which simplifies thing. Another innovation for the LR4 is the push-button start and the electronic parking brake. The front seats are very supportive and comfortable although they have firm cushions. The seats are height adjustable for an improved driving position. The second and third row are also comfortable and they can fit 5 people combined, three on the second row and two on the third. The Lr4 also offers great cargo space, 44.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, though space is reduced to 9.9 cubic feet when the third row is in use.

Although the 2010 LR4 hasn’t been yet crash tested many people are impressed by the long list of standard safety equipment, which includes antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags and an electronic stability system, Stability Control with traction control, Terrain Response system and many more. Buyers can also choose as an option a five-camera view system that monitors the ground around the vehicle.

For 2010 only one trim is available with two equipment packages HSE and HSE Luxury. In the US only the 5.0 V8 engine is available but overseas a 3.0 liter TDI V6 is in the engine range.
