The Audi A5 is a luxury mid size car produced since 2007 by the German automobile manufacturer Audi. The A5 is available in two body styles, a two door coupe or a two door cabriolet. In Europe, Japan, Mexico and South Africa the A5 is available in an extra body style a five door “coupe” like sedan, named Audi A5 Sportback.

The A5 is practically an Audi A4 with a longer wheelbase and only two doors. The car is still a head turning car, this is maybe because it was styled by Walter de'Silva, who is a car designer from Italy, that now works for Volkswagen Group. De’Silva also said that the Audi A5 is “the most beautiful car I ever designed”.

For 2010 A5s, Audi will offer a new standard engine, the familiar Audi 2.0 liter straight four turbocharged engine. The engine is rated at 211 horse power and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is the same as the one found on the Audi A4. The former standard engine, the 3.2 liter V6 will still remain on the lineup, but now is only available with automatic transmission, is you are looking for a manual, you should know that the 2.0 liter is offered with standard six-speed manual and optional automatic.

The Audi A5 has a small advantage in front of the competitors, beside the looks, it comes standard with Audi’s all wheel drive system, quattro that will come “handy” to those of you that are riding in harsh conditions.

The 3.2 liter V6 engine is indeed potent (265 horse power at 6500 rpm and 243 lb-ft at 300 rpm) and music making, but it’s quite thirsty, being rated at 18 miles per gallon in the city, 27 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 miles per gallon in combined cycle. The performances are good, being able to get form zero to sixty in 6.4 seconds and can cover the quarter mile in about 14 seconds.

The 2.0 liter turbocharged is a very good alternative to the V6, although is not as pleasant to the ears, the car is almost as fast as the 3.2 liter version, it can get to 60 from standstill in 6.5 seconds, that’s 0.1 slower than the V6, and can cover the quarter mile in just 14.5 seconds, slower with 0.5 seconds than the 3.2 liter. Now the good part is that this version gets a better mpg at 22 city, 28 highway and 24 combined.

The interior is as beautiful styled as the exterior, and features high quality materials and well finished details of wood and chrome, beside the luxury the car is also practical, offering some storage compartments. The soft top is well finished and has a glass rear window and even a dome light. The access in the car is quite easy, thanks to the fully powered front seats that scoot forward and open a manageable passage to the rear seat. The A5 is available in three trim levels, Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige.

As for the safety, the 2010 Audi A5 hasn’t been tested either by the federal government nor insurance industry. However the car features loads of assuring safety technology, that includes front, side and side curtain airbags. The advantage I was talking about, the quttro system also can be named as a safety feature, offering more traction on slippery condition.
