Audi A6 2004 - 2010
The Audi A6 is a mid size luxury car, built by the German automaker Audi AG. The car is built on the Volkswagen Group C platform, which reached sixth generation as well as the model its self (for each generation VW built or improved the platform, thus we to differentiate the models we will name by its platform, C1, C2…..C6) . The name A6 is around since 1994 (C4 model), the model that succeeded was the Audi 100 (C3). The current generation is built on the C6 Platform, on which there are also built the S6, RS6 and Avant (Station Wagon) models.
The current model (C6) has been built since 2004, and received a facelift in 2008, being presented at Moscow International Motor Show. The facelifted model featured some minor cosmetic changes in both front and rear arrears, and also another engine, the 3.0 liter V6 supercharged, that produces 300 horse power.
Te 2010 Audi A6 is available with three engines a 3.2 liter FSI V6, that produces 265 horse power, the all new 3.0 liter turbo that I mentioned before or the 4.2 liter FSI V8 that produces 350 horse power. For the transmission you can chose form multitronic CVT or six-speed Tiptronic, both are automatic. The 2010 A6 is available in front wheel drive (FrontTrack) or all wheel drive (quattro).
The top of the range 2010 Audi A6 4.2 liter, mated to a six-speed Tiptronic automatic and all wheel drive, produces the 350 horse power at 6800 rpm and of 325 lb-ft torque at 3500 rpm. The car can sprint to 60 from standstill in just 5.8 seconds and can cover the quarter mile in about 14 seconds, the car can get to a top speed of 130 mph, were is electronically limited. The fuel consumption remains in the “thirsty car” area being able to return 16 miles per gallon in the city, 23 miles per gallon on the highway and 18 miles per gallon in combined cycle.
The new 3 liter turbo is a very good alternative to the 4.2 although the music made by the engine is not the same, your pocket will thank you for the choice. This engine will return 18 miles per gallon in the city, 26 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 miles per gallon combined. The performances are almost similar, from zero to sixty you will get in 5.9 seconds and the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds.
The 2010 Audi A6 can be bought in three trim levels Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. Inside of the cabin you will find only high quality materials with nicely finished details that accentuate the business felling. The A6 can accommodate comfortably five adults, in one of CNET’s tests they said that "Our car's sport seats were very comfortable, the driving position helped by full-power adjustments, including movable lumbar support, and a power-tilting and power-telescoping wheel."
The 2010 Audi A6 hasn’t been crash tested by the federal government, but in IIHS tests the 2009 model received the “Top Safety Pick” award in the large car category, because the car earned the institute’s highest rating “Good” in both frontal-offset and side-impact tests, and also the fact that offers ESC as standard.
