Nissan Armada 2004 - Present
The Armada is a full-size SUV built by Nissan. The car first appeared in 2004 and received a minor facelift in 2009. The Armada is built on the F-Alpha platform that it shares it with the Nissan Xterra, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Pathfinder and the Nissan Titan. The Infinity division from Nissan Motors markets a luxury version of the Armada under the Infinity QX56 name.
The Nissan Armada utilizes a powerful 5.7-liter V8 that produces 317 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six speed automatic transmission, which doesn’t help much on reducing fuel consumption. The estimated fuel economy is around 12 / 18 mpg city / highway and 15 mpg combined for both the front wheel drive model and the all wheel drive model. The massive V8 pushes the Armada to 60 mph in just 7.2 second, an outstanding time for a car in this class. The Armada handles surprisingly well and steering is fairly tight with formidable feedback. The suspension is a bit stiff for a large SUV and larger bumps in the road are felt throughout the entire cabin. The large, vented disc brakes with ABS are powerful and adequate for a car of this size. The 2010 Nissan Armada also has great towing capability, able to haul over 9000 lbs.
The wide, flared fenders and sloping roofline give the exterior of the Nissan Armada a muscular, if not a bit bulky, appearance. The interior is very comfortable and offers reasonable luxury for a car in this price range with high quality materials, real wood accents, and satin-finish metal trim. The Armada is available with two different seating configurations. The standard configuration can house seven people with a second row containing two captain’s seats. The other offers seating for up to 8 with full benches in both the second and third rows. The Nissan Armada offers 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and 97.1 cubic feet with the second and third row in their lowered positions.
In safety tests conducted by the federal government, the 2010 Nissan Armada received five out of five stars in driver protection and four out of five stars in front-passenger protection in frontal crash tests. Standard equipment on the Armada includes anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, an electronic stability control system with traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Nissan also offers an optional rear view monitor that displays an image of what's behind the car when it is in reverse. The Armada comes equipped with dual-stage front air bags and side-curtain airbags in all three rows.
