The Frontier is a compact / mid-size pick up truck produced by Nissan Motors. The first generation of the Frontier, referred to as D22, debuted as a 1998 model and replaced the Nissan Hardbody pickup. The truck is currently in its second generation, dubbed by Nissan as the D40, which appeared as a 2005 model.

The Nissan Frontier is available with two engine choices, the first being a 2.5-liter four-cylinder good for 152 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque. The second available power plant is a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. There are three available transmissions depending on the chosen trim level. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard, but available upgrades include a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic. Nissan offers the Frontier in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations.

The top of the line V6 can push the Frontier from 0 to 60 in 7.9 seconds, an average time for a vehicle this size. The fuel economy varies depending on engine choice. For the 2.4-liter, the EPA estimates an average fuel economy of 19 / 23 mpg city / highway while the V6 manages only 17 / 22 mpg. Fuel economy numbers will be slightly lower in Frontiers outfitted with four-wheel drive. The 2010 Nissan Frontier has car-like due to its well-balanced suspension that provides a comfortable and smooth ride.

The exterior design of the Frontier looks clean and athletic. Nissan clearly received inspiration from the pickup’s bigger brother, the Nissan Titan. In 2009 the car received some minor style changes that include a new front-end featuring redesigned headlights and a redesigned grille.

The interior layout is practical as well as utilitarian. The controls are easy to use and in reach and the gauges are large and easily visible. The front bucket seats are comfortable and supportive, even while off-roading. With the King Cab option buyers receive two jump seats, which are a bit small and lacking in comfort. The Crew Cab comes with a rear bench that offers decent legroom but still manages to feel a little cramped.

In crash tests conducted by the federal government, the 2010 Nissan Frontier received four out of five stars for driver and front passenger protection in front impact crashes, and five out of five stars for front seat and backseat occupant protection in side impact crashes. For 2010 the Nissan Frontier comes with Nissan’s Advanced Air Bag System with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant-classification sensors, Driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and an Electronic Stability Program as standard safety features.
