The Nissan GT-R is a supercar manufactured and marketed by the Japanese company Nissan Motors. The GT-R first appeared on December 6, 2007 in Japan and in July 7, 2008 in the United States. The GT-R is based on two concept cars developed by Nissan. The first is a car was unveiled in 2001 at the Tokyo Motor Show and the second was presented at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, where Nissan confirmed that the production GT-R would be 80% – 90% based on this concept.

The 21st century Nissan GT-R was blessed with a 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that generates 485 hp and a massive 434 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six speed automatic transmission with three driver selectable modes: Normal; for maximum smoothness and efficiency with gearshifts in less than 0.5 seconds, R-Mode; for maximum performance with the fastest shift speeds (as fast as 0.2 seconds), and Snow mode, which provides gentler starting and shifting on slippery surfaces. Gears are selected manually via steering column-mounted paddle shifters.

When it comes to acceleration, the Nissan is one of the fastest production cars available on the market. The GT-R reaches 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 195 mph. The EPA estimates the Nissan GT-R will get an average fuel economy of 16 / 21 mpg city / highway; very respectable numbers for such a powerful car. The handling of this car is out of this world, with outstanding feedback from steering wheel, driver-selectable suspension, and variable-torque-split all-wheel drive with sticky, low-profile tires and big Brembo anti-lock brakes.

The exterior design is modern and aggressive but also very functional. In a review done by Detroit News, they stated "The car's edges are sharp, inside and out. Nissan describes the front fenders cutting up from the hood as ‘aero-blades' and the curved C-pillar as the ‘sward edge.' Perhaps Nissan has overplayed its samurai card, but it's still beautiful."

The Nissan's interior design is futuristic with a plethora of high tech features. The car stands out because of the high quality materials and fabrics, superb fit and finish, and the surprisingly large 8.8 cubic feet of cargo room available. The only low point to the interior is the diminutive backseat which should be used only for extra cargo as it provides minimal room for extra passengers. The front seats, however, are very supportive and comfortable, and the tilt-telescopic steering wheel allows for drivers of all sizes to find a comfortable seating position.

The 2010 Nissan GT-R has yet to be crash tested either by the government or insurance agencies, which is understandable because very few cars in this price range get tested. The GT-R comes equipped with dual-stage supplemental front airbags, driver and front-passenger seat mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, Front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, 4-wheel anti-lock braking system, energy-absorbing steering column, electronic brake force distribution and a tire pressure monitoring system as standard safety equipment.
