Nissan Rogue 2008 - Present
The Rogue is a compact crossover SUV built by Nissan Motors. Unveiled at the 2007 North American International Auto Show as a 2008 model, the Rogue is the second crossover SUV from Nissan to be introduced to the US market. The car is also known as the Nissan Qashqai in Europe and Nissan Dualis in Australia and Japan.
The Nissan Rogue comes equipped with a 2.5 liter four cylinder engine that produces 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. The 2.5-liter engine is mated to Nissan’s Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). When it comes to fuel economy, the Rogue is one of the best choices in its class. For the two-wheel drive model, the EPA estimates an average fuel economy of 22 / 27 mpg city / highway while the all wheel drive model achieves 21 / 26 mpg. The electric power steering seems a bit to light at lower speeds, but feels responsive and tight as the car accelerates. There is quite a bit of body lean in tight corners and the suspension is a bit stiff for most drivers. The brakes are accurate with adequate power and deliver confident, short stopping distances.
The exterior design of the Nissan Rogue has a sleek curvy look. The main exterior change for 2010 is the addition of a value package for the base model that includes a chrome grill that replaces the “same color as the car” grill, 16 inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, privacy glass and a rearview mirror with integrated rearview monitor. Overall the car looks good and appealing with similar styling cues to the Nissan Murano.
The interior design is a selling point for the Nissan Rogue. It features high quality materials and fabrics, nice soft-touch surfaces, easy to use electronics and great central console layout. The base model comes equipped with air conditioning, an auxiliary audio input jack, power accessories and keyless entry with an array of other options to choose from. For the Rogue, Nissan chose not to make a third row of seating available. The front seats are unexpectedly supportive and are placed well inside the cabin. The backseat is comfortable and, thanks to large rear doors, entering and exiting is an easy task. The Nissan Rogue can fit 28.9 cubic feet of cargo behind the backseat and 57.9 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down
In federal government crash tests the 2010 Nissan Rogue received five out of five stars for both front- and rear-seat protection in side impact crash tests, four out of five stars for driver and passenger protection in front crash tests and also a four-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety granted the Rogue their highest rating of “Good” in front impact, side impact, and rear protection tests. The Nissan Rogue comes equipped with many safety features. The Base model includes anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, dual-stage supplemental front air bags, driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, roof-mounted curtain supplemental air bags for side-impact and rollover head protection for outboard occupants, vehicle dynamic control and traction control.
