Cadillac STS 2005 - Present
Cadillac STS or S-Series Touring Sedan is a Cadillac produced car, a mid-size luxury sports sedan and executive car. It replaced the Cadillac Seville in 1988 so the Cadillac STS is standing for Seville Touring Sedan. The STS was the most expensive sedan produced by Cadillac, but it is seen as the flagship of the Cadillac luxury brand. It was powered by a then new Northstar aluminum DOHC L37 engine.
The Cadillac STS suffered last redesign in 2008 and the 2010 model remained completely unchanged, only two different colors being available. The 2010 Cadillac STS is featuring two powerful engines, the most power coming from 4.6 liter Northstar V8 engine that produces 320 hp at 6400 rpm and a maximum torque of 315 at 4400 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It is offered in both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive. The EPA estimated the Cadillac STS fuel economy to 15 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway and a combined consumption of 20 mpg. The car is able to get to sixty mph in about 6.4 seconds and can cover a quarter-mile in 14.9 seconds.
The 2010 Cadillac STS shares the same exterior design as the 2008 model, but there were added some fancy elements such as huge chrome grille, chrome door handles and chrome front fender vents. The exterior is not as luxurious as the interior and features daytime running lights, heated mirrors, aluminum wheels as standard and chromed wheels as available for the last two levels of trim. The STS has an overall length of 196.7 inch, width of 72.6 inch, a height of 57.6 inch and the wheelbase is 116.4 inch long.
As I said the interior is much more luxurious than the exterior and has a very good level of fit and finish. The leather covered seats are of good quality and have a strong aroma. The interior features a easy to use touch screen monitor that can control navigation system, audio controls and climate, ultra view sunroof, power driver and passenger seat, heated front seats, power steering wheel, CD player and radio AM/FM. Seating is very comfortable in the front but not as comfortable in the back seat, having small dimensions for such a big car.
The 2010 Cadillac STS does very well in crash tests, the government offered 4 star ratings on most of the impacts, except for the side impact where the STS got the maximum 5 stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the STS a top score "Good" for frontal impact and only "Acceptable" for side impacts.
As for the safety features, the Cadillac STS is offering anti lock brakes, stability control, front and front side airbags and side curtain airbags as standard, tire pressure monitor and the OnStar emergency communication system.
The Cadillac STS is offered with a 3.6 liter V6 engine as well, that generates 302 hp at 6300 rpm and a maximum of 272 lb-ft of torque hooked with a six speed automatic transmission. Featuring this engine the STS accelerates from 0 to 60 mpg in about 6.5 seconds and covers the quarter mile in 15 seconds. The fuel efficiency is a little better than the V8 engines, estimated at 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
The 3.6 liter engine is offering enough power for the drivers so if you want to buy a Cadillac STS you should think that this engine is more than enough and has a better fuel consumption than the V8.
