The Chrysler 300 is a full-size sport/luxury sedan presented at the 2003 New York Auto Show as a concept car and production started in the spring of 2004, becoming North America's first rear-wheel drive sedan with a V6 engine since the 1995 Mazda 929.

The Chrysler 300 is based on the Chrysler LX platform, which features components from the W 210 Mercedes Benz E-Class. Some components used are the suspension design, front seat frames, steering column and the 5-speed automatic's design.

The 5.7 liter V8 acts just like an American V8 should, while the SRT8 model is a true muscle car. The engine can run on four cylinders when you're cruising on the highway to reduce fuel consumption but also on 8 cylinders when more power is needed. This was made possible by using a system called MDS (Multi-displacement system) that uses sensors to detect when to shut off half of the eight cylinders. The Chrysler 300C is unique because of the HEMI engine. This is the only HEMI that has a pushrod induction tube, located on the side of the engine. This tube is a way to make the 300C more fuel efficient and faster, because of the air being "pulled and pushed" into the engine's induction area. The 300 handles very well for such a big car and the lx platform offers great acceleration. The Chrysler 300 5.7-liter V8 has 359 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque. It delivers 16/25/19 mpg with Rear-Wheel Drive and 16/23/18 with All-Wheel Drive. The five-speed automatic is standard. The 300 SRT8's 6.1-liter V8 cranks out 425 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque through a five-speed automatic.

The 300's design is clearly American. The headlights, high beltline, fenders, chromed grill and big wheels give it a strong presence on the road. The 120-inch wheelbase shortens up the front and rear overhangs and opens up plenty of occupant space on the inside. The cabin is very spacious offering more legroom than any of its competitors. The 300 seats five people in its cabin. The seats are made out of premium materials and are very comfortable. Chrysler offers a unique entertainment system called MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System that can store music on an internal hard drive. The overall interior is very simple but also very elegant. The dash is very luxurious, classy but also sporty. Sadly, the 300's high beltline and low-profile windows compromise visibility, especially for short drivers. Also many reviewers complained about the low quality of the materials used inside the cabin.

In crash testing, the Chrysler 300 earned five stars for driver and passenger protection during frontal impacts. Five are the maximum safety points and one star is the lowest. The car hasn't been trough side-impact testing yet. The Institute for Highway Safety's granted the Chrysler 300 the highest rating (good) for frontal-offset crash testing; however, the 300 was granted second-lowest rating of "Marginal" in side-impact crash tests. The 300 earned a poor rating without side head-curtain airbags and only " marginal " rating with them. All the 2010 models will have side head-curtains airbags as standard equipment.

The Chrysler 300 V8 models are very fast reaching 60mph in just 6.4 seconds. Acceleration is well balanced and you instantly feel the huge amount of power you have access to, 359 hp on the 5.7 V8 Hemi and 445 hp on the SRT8 model.

The base model Chrysler 300 is equipped with a 2.5 liter V6 engine with 190 hp, 17" wheels with wheel covers, a four-speed automatic transmission, single disc mp3 player and four wheel disc brakes.

The Touring model Chrysler 300 uses a 3,518 cc V6 with 250 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Like the base model it has a four-speed automatic transmission, 17" aluminum wheels, AM/FM radio with CD player and auxiliary audio jack, ESP, (Electronic Stability Program) leather seats, and SIRIUS satellite radio.

The Limited Chrysler 300 model uses the same 3.5 L V6 engine, which generates 250 hp and 250 ft•lbf. The car is equipped with a five-speed Mercedes W5A580 automatic transmission. Extra to the touring model's equipment the Limited model includes 18" chromed aluminum wheels and Chrysler's Dual-Zone Climate Control.
