The GMC Terrain is a mid-size crossover SUV produced by the GM brand GMC and was launched last year to replace the GMC Envoy. It also replaced the Pontiac Torrent whose production was stopped due to the dropping of the brand by GM. The Terrain is the counter part of the Chevrolet Equinox and debuted at the New York International Auto Show in 2009.

The newly launched GMC Terrain is very similar to the Chevrolet Equinox only that where the Equinox is curvy and sleek, the Terrain is boxy and truck-like. While a few carmakers try to make their SUV more car-like, the GMC is trying to be something else, a truck-like with none of the capabilities of one. Beside these critics the GMC Terrain has a very interesting and nice look that stands out. Either standard or optional it is fitted with 17" painted aluminum wheels, 18 " aluminum wheels and 19" chrome-clad aluminum wheels covered with all-season tires. Huge grille and the large headlights accentuate the powerful feel and the supremacy of the GMC Terrain on the road.

Only two engine options are available on the new 2010 GMC Terrain, nothing very powerful but enough to be fuel efficient, only GMC knows what they've done. First we have the 3.0 liter V6 engine that produces 264 hp and 222 pound feet of torque hooked to a six-speed automatic transmission. This engine costs $1,500 extra than the base engine, a 3.0 liter inline four-cylinder that generates 182 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque fitted to the same six-speed automatic transmission. This engine is more fuel efficient than the V8, and it is ranked as the most fuel efficient in class when driving on the highway. EPA estimated the fuel economy for the four-cylinder engine at 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway with FWD while with the all-wheel drive configuration 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The more powerful V6 achieves 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with FWD and 17/24 with the AWD configuration being less impressive than the four-cylinder. The GMC Terrain offers a smooth ride and handling, it isn't the most fun to drive SUV, but it is perfect for a family car.

On the inside of the 2010 GMC Terrain we can find some nice quality materials, very spacious and stylish interior which seems to be very quiet also. The front seats are very comfortable but you wouldn't guess that we'll find the same comfort and space for the rear seats also, meaning that the Terrain is a very good family car. The price it is offered at would not suggest the plenty of features they included on the interior such as tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio and cruise controls, single-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth for phone, driver information center, instrumentation, power outlets, remote vehicle start, 8-way power driver seat adjuster with lumbar control, heated seats, AM/FM/XM stereo with CD player and MP3/WMA playback capability, audio system with 6-speaker, navigation and rear seat entertainment system.

The 2010 GMC Terrain was rated with top five stars for protecting the passengers in both frontal and side impact crash tests and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives also top score of "Good" in frontal, side and rear crash tests. Among the safety features we can find anti lock braking system, dual-stage front airbags, driver and front passengers airbags, side and side curtain airbags, OnStar emergency system and Stabilitrak system.
