Buick Enclave 2007 - Present
The Buick Enclave is a crossover SUV launched by Buick in the spring of 2007 as a 2008 model. The Buick Enclave is built on the GM Lambda platform, shared with the GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, and Saturn Outlook. The Enclave was unveiled in 2006 at the North American International Auto Show as a concept car, the first car to be built on the Lambda platform. The design of this crossover is based on the Buick Centieme, which was presented at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show.
The Enclave replaced the minivan-based Rendezvous, the truck-based Rainier, the Terraza minivan and both Buick SUV's.
The Buick Enclave is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine that produced 288 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The average fuel consumption is 17/24 mpeg for the Front-wheel drive model and 16/22 for the All-wheel drive model. The car can reach 60 mph in 7.9 seconds; this is a great performance for an SUV. Also the gears can be shifted manually for greater performance. The Enclave is very stable and agile for a car this big, also the steering is precise and well balanced. Its long, wide body makes it difficult to maneuver in tight spaces. The brakes are smooth and powerful.
The Enclave's exterior is very elegant and luxurious with well defined lines. The production car's exterior stayed true to the concept car, a thing which not so many cars do these days. Although the Enclave can easily accommodate eight people the car has the look of a much smaller vehicle. In a review made by AutoWeek they stated ""Enclave is the best looking Buick to hit the streets in years. From the delightfully tight and tidy panel gaps to available 19-inch chrome rims, the Enclave looks good -- and dare we say surprisingly young."
The car's interior is incredibly spacious and can fit eight people. The materials used are of premium quality and none of the reviewers complained about this aspect. The dash has a very simple and logical layout, giving you no headaches while trying to figure which buttons to push. It's also accentuated by chrome trims and wood insertions. The seats are very comfortable but the second and third row get more cramped depending on what type of seats your order for the second row (bench seats or captain chairs). The Enclave's cargo capacity is one of its strong points. With the second and third rows stowed the maximum cargo space reaches 116 cubic feet.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2010 Enclave the highest score of "Good" in front, side and rear crash impact tests. The car received 5 stars for all seating positions during a frontal and side crash and also 4 stars for roll-over probability, 4 stars mean that the car has a 16% chance to roll-over during a single car crash. The standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, front airbags, side airbags and side curtain airbags.
Overall this car is one of the best SUV's to hit the American market. The Enclave offers great standard equipment, the best in its class we can say, good performance and great safety features. So if you are looking for a new SUV or a good reliable family car the Buick Enclave should be on your shopping list.
