Ford E-Series Wagon 2009 - Present
The Ford E-Series is a line of full size vans, in cargo and passenger body styles. The E-Series was formerly known as Econoline or Club Wagon and has been on Ford's production line since 1961. The E-Series Van along with the Transit Connect are the only two models in Ford's van lineup, toughest competitor for the E-Series Van is the Dodge Sprinter.
The E-Series van lineup consists if three models: E-150, E-250 and E-350 Super-Duty. All are available with either standard (216.7" in length) or extended (236.7" in length) body styles, width is standard for all (79.4") with the height of 82.4" for standard version and 85" for extended version. The GCWR for the E-150 and E-250 is at 11500 lbs and 13000 lbs for the E-350 Super Duty and the maximum cargo volume is rated at 230.6 cubic feet for the standard model and 271.3 cubic feet for the extended version.
Engines available for the E-Series Wagon are three gasolines: 4.6 liter V8, a 5.4 liter V8 and a 6.8 liter V10 and a diesel: 6.0 liter V8.The 6.8 liter V10 is available as optional only for the E-350 Super Duty, for only $800. The engine is capable of producing an out put of 362 horsepower and a massive torque of 457 lb-ft. The engine matted to a five speed automatic transmission that delivers the power to the rear wheels. Acceleration is pretty good, the E-350 Super Duty can reach 60 mph from standstill in 8.8 seconds, and can cover the quarter mile in 15.8 seconds at 83 mph. Fuel consumption data is not provided by the manufacturer, but I recon that it will return about 9-10 mpg city and 17-18 mpg highway.
The 6.0 liter V8 diesel is offered as optional for the E-350 Super Duty. The engine kicks out 235 horsepower at 3150 rpm and a massive torque of 440 lb-ft available from as low as 1600 rpm, that means that you can stay in a gear for longer. The engine is matted to a five speed automatic, delivering the power to the rear wheels. Acceleration is fair, reaching 60 mph in a decent under 10 seconds. Fuel consumption data is also not provided by Ford but I guess that it will do 13-14 mpg city and 20-21 mpg highway.
The 5.4 liter V8 is offered as standard engine for the E-350 Super Duty model and as optional for the E-150 and E-250 models. Maximum output of the engine is 255 horsepower at 4500 rpm and the maximum torque of 350 lb-ft is available from 2500 rpm. The engine is matted to a four speed automatic transmission that shifts the power to the rear wheels. Acceleration is good, doing zero to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds and covering the quarter mile in 16.8 seconds. Fuel economy data is also not specified by Ford, but it will probably return 11-12 mpg city and 18-19 mpg highway.
The entry level 4.6 liter V8 is the standard engine for the E-150 and E-250 models. The engine can produce some 225 horsepower at 4800 rpm and a maximum torque of 286 lb-ft at 3500 rpm. The engine is matted to the same four speed automatic transmission as the other V8 and delivers the power to the rear wheels. Acceleration is good, reaching 60 mph from zero in a decent 8.9 seconds for the E-150 and 1 second more for the E-250. Fuel consumption data, again, is not provided by Ford but I will probably return about 12-13 mpg city and 19-20 mpg highway.
The Ford E-Series van is offered in two trims. The entry level trim is Commercial and includes: AM/FM stereo, tilt steering wheel and manual 4 way adjustable driver seat. The second, Recreational trim adds up: day-night rearview mirror, CD player, auxiliary jack input and speed control.
As for the safety, the 2010 Ford E-Series comes with few safety features as standard; among those there are: frontal airbags, side airbags are optional (standard for the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana), traction control and electronic stability program are also optional, another optional feature is a rear obstacle detection system. The 2010 E-Series has only undergone rollover crash testing, receiving three stars in federal government tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety hasn't rated the Ford E-Series yet.
