The Ford Expedition is a full size SUV built by the Ford Motors Company since 1997. Firs generation was built until 2002 and was offered as an substitute for the discontinued Ford Bronco. In 2007, the Expedition has reached its third generation and is the current model. Ford builds the Ford Expedition on their T1 platform shared with the Lincoln Navigator, at their plant in Louisville, Kentucky.


Ford kept a more traditional large SUV design for the exterior of the Expedition, but also making it look distinctive and respectable. The 2010 Expedition is offered in standard or extended body styles; the extended is 12 inch longer that the standard that anyway measures 119 inches, so its proportion make it a little hard to maneuver in a parking lot.


The only engine available for the 2010 Ford Expedition is a 5.4 liter V8. The engine can produce a maximum 310 horsepower at 5100 rpm and a healthy torque of 365 lb-ft at 3600 rpm. The engine is matted to a six speed automatic transmission that delivers the power either to the rear wheels or optional to all four wheels. Acceleration is decent, doing zero to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds, a little bellow average. Fuel consumption is in class average, the RWD model returns 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined, the AWD returns with 1 mpg less in both city and highway.


The interior of the Ford Expedition is colossal and can provide seating positions from five to eight passengers, there is an optional second row with captain's chairs that drops the seating capability to seven. Cargo room is very good, providing 18.6 cubic feet behind the third row for the regular Expedition and 42.6 cubic feet for the extended Expedition EL. If you fold the second row, the regular Expedition offers a massive 108 cubic feet of space and the EL 130 cubic feet.


Ford offers the 2010 Expedition in four trim levels: XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited and King Ranch, all of them can be ordered in standard or extended body styles. The entry level XLT trim includes as standard: air conditioning, auto-dimming rearview mirror, AM/FM stereo and single-CD player, auxiliary jack input, rear air conditioning and heat, cruise control, leather wrapped steering wheel, six way power driver seat and the third row. The second, Eddie Bauer add up over the XLT trim: reverse sensing system, leather trimmed first and second row, 10 way power driver seat, power fold third row, dual zone automatic temperature control, steering wheel mounted audio controls, premium sound system, SIRIUS SAT radio and Ford SYNC. Third trim, the Limited, includes the Eddie Bauer trim plus: power liftgate, power rear qurter windows, heated and cooled firs seats with memory, heated second row seats, universal garage door opener and Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package. Fourth and top of the line King Ranch trim includes the Limited trim plus: leather trimmed third row and wood trim on switch panels, floor console, shifter handle and instrument panel.


As for the safety, the 2010 Ford Expedition has been trough testing buy the federal government and received five stars for protecting the passengers in case of a frontal crash; in the rollover tests, the FWD Expedition received three stars and the AWD five stars. Safety features present as standard on 2010 Ford Expedition are: frontal airbags for driver and front passenger, front seats mounted side airbags, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, three row side curtain airbags and rollover sensor, three point seaet belts for all seating position and tire pressure monitor system.
