The Ford Explorer is a mid size SUV built by Ford Motor Company since 1990. First generation launched in March 1990 as a 1991 model year car, was offered as a direct replacement for the Ford Bronco. Current Ford Explorer is built since 2006, and is Explorer's fourth generation. Ford offers the 2010 Explorer in three trim levels: XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited.

The Explorer's exterior look is traditional SUV like, being boxy and large. The front end's grill changes from trim to trim, thus having three different grills. Some of the exterior features are the 16" painted-aluminum wheels (for the XLT) and 18" chrome-clad aluminum (for the Limited), pueblo gold lower front bumper, rear bumper and wheel-lip moldings (for the Eddie Bauer trim), chrome grill and fog lights.

The engines available for the Ford Explorer are a V6 and a V8. The V8's displacement is at 4.6 liter, and can produce a top output of 292 horsepower at 5700 rpm and a maximum torque of 315 lb-ft at 4000 rpm. The engine is matted to a six speed automatic that shifts the power to the all four wheels trough an AWD or 4WD system (the 4WD is a more potent system, because of having a low gear, when the AWD has only high gear; the 4WD and AWD works almost the same, transferring the power to the wheels with more traction, when on slippery surface the 4WD engages the low gear and transfers more torque at low rpm to the wheels that got traction, when the AWD cannot do that, delivering same torque). Acceleration is good, the V8 Explorer can reach 60 mph from standstill in 8 seconds. Fuel economy is average, returning 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. This engine is available only as optional for the Eddie Bauer and Limited trims.

The standard engine offered, the 4.0 liter V6 is also pretty potent, producing an output of 210 horsepower at 5100 rpm and a maximum torque of 254 lb-ft at 3700 rpm. The engine is matted to a five speed automatic, delivering the power to either rear wheels of all four wheel trough AWD or 4WD. Acceleration from standstill to 60 mph is decent doing it in 9.4 seconds. Fuel economy is rated at 14 mpg city and 20 mpg highway for the RWD version and 13 mpg city and 19 mpg highway for the AWD and 4WD versions.

On the inside, the Ford Explorer is a quite SUV. The materials used on the inside are of good quality and the assembly and finish are also decent. The Explorer can seat up to seven passengers, with an optional third row. The entry level XLT trim includes as standard: air conditioning, AM/FM stereo/single-CD player, auxiliary audio input jack, cruise control, leather wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, manual day & night rearview mirror and premium cloth 1st-row bucket seats with 6-way power driver seat, driver manual lumbar and 2-way adjustable head restraints. Second, Eddie Bauer trim include the XLT trim plus: leather-trimmed, heated 1st-row bucket seats with 10-way power driver seat, including power lumbar and recline, manual 3rd-row 50/50 split fold-flat bench seat, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Ford SYNC, compass and auto-dimming rearview mirror. Top of the line Limited trim includes the Eddie Bauer trim plus: Leather-trimmed, heated 1st-row bucket seats with 10-way power driver seat, including power lumbar, recline and memory; and 6-way power passenger seat with manual lumbar, power fold third row, premium sound system, unique woodgrain interior inserts, dual zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control, auxiliary rear climate control and universal garage door opener.

As for the safety, the 2010 Ford Explorer has performed well in government crash tests receiving five out five stars for protecting the occupants in frontal and side impact crash tests; in the rollover test both the RWD and AWD received a three star rating. In IIHS tests, the 2010 Explorer received their top mark of "Good" in frontal offset test and "Acceptable" (second best) in side and rear impact crash tests (class average rating for these tests is "Good"). Standard safety features found on 2010 Ford Explorer are: AdvanceTrac (traction control) with Roll Stability Control, SOS Post-Crash Alert System flashes hazard lights and sounds horn after airbag deployment or safety belt pretensioner activation in certain collisions, Tire pressure monitor, frontal airbags, front seat mounted side airbags, curtain airbags and four wheel ABS.
