Acura Integra 1994 - 2001
Overview
The Acura Integra also known as Honda Integra is a Compact sport coupe built by the Japanese car manufacturer Honda. The Integra, with both Honda and Acura badges, was built from 1986 to 2007. In those years the Integra had four generation.
Third generation of the Acura Integra was built between 1994 and 2001, when it was replaced by the fourth generation renamed Acura RSX. At its launch the third generation Acura Integra impressed with its style, but it was criticized and was not accepted immediately by Integra loyalists.
As the model replaced this generation of the Integra was available in the two coupe and sedan styles.
Variants
The 3rd generation Acura Integra was offered with three engines. The least powerful engine was the 1.8 liter that developed 142 hp @ 6300 rpm and a maximum torque of 127 lb/ft @ 5200 rpm. This engine was found on the RS, LS, SE and GS.
Second engine in terms of power was the 1.8 liter DOHC VTEC that has increased in size from the 2nd generation Integra. The new engine developed 168 hp @ 7600 rpm and 128 lb/ft of torque @ 6200 rpm. This engine was found only on the GS-R trim.
The most powerful engine in the 3rd generation Acura Integra's range was another variant of the 1.8 liter DOHC VTEC and was found on the Type R trim. This engine managed a power output of 195 hp @ 8000 rpm and a maximum torque of 130 lb/ft @ 7500 rpm.
Third generation Acura Integra was available in the five trims mentioned before. The entry level trim for the Integra was the RC (Regular Series). This trim was available for both the coupe and sedan and had as standard equipment cassette player, rear window defroster, and tilt steering wheel; the cassette player was replaced in 1997 by a CD player.
Second trim was the LS (Luxury Series), again available for both body styles. This trim added over the RC trim air conditioning, power windows and door locks, cruise control, and a moon roof. In 2000 the trim received alloy wheels as standard. The Integra LS is the most popular non-VTEC model.
Third trim was the SE (Special Edition), this trim was too available on the coupe and the sedan and featured the standard equipment found on the LS plus leather seats, alloy wheels , and a rear wing spoiler. This trim was available from 1995 to 1996.
In 1997 Acura introduces the GS (Grand Series) trim that featured the same equipment as the SE trim that it replaced.
Fourth trim was the GS-R (Grand Series Racing) that was now available on both the coupe and sedan, compared to the 2nd generation Integra GS-R that was available only as a coupe. This trim included the SE / GS trim minus the leather seats that became standard in 1999. As the 2nd generation this trim also featured the VTEC engine.
Fifth and final trim was the Type R (Type Racing) that became available from 1997. This model included as standard equipment black mesh/suede bolstered seats with red stitching, mid-height rear wing, front lip spoiler, body colored side rocker panels, shaved door moldings, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, power windows and door locks, and exclusive white powder-coated light-weight alloy wheels with 5-lug configuration; in 2000 it got as standard aluminum shift knob, gunmetal lightweight alloy wheels, and air conditioning.
Transmissions available on this generation of the Acura Integra were a five speed manual and a four speed automatic. The automatic transmission was available only on the RS, LS and SE / GS trims. The GS-R and Type R trims were available only with the manual.
Additional Information
Third generation Acura Integra was produced in 301,102 units. Best year in terms of sale was 1994 when the 67,426 units were sold throughout the United States.
In 1998 the Integra got a mid-generation facelift. At the outside the changes were new front and rear bumpers with slightly modified headlights, red rear turn signals. On the inside the changes included the deletion of the RS trim, the steering wheel now featured Acura emblem rather than the word ACURA.
