Overview


The Acura Vigor was a mid-size sedan manufactured by the Japanese automaker Honda and sold in Japan and USA under the Acura brand. On the US market the Acura Vigor was discontinued in 1995 and was replaced by the Acura TL. From 1981 to 1995 the Acura Vigor had three generations.


Firs generation of the Acura Vigor was produced from 1981 to 1985. The car was introduced in late September 1981 and was a higher grade variant of the Honda Accord. On the Japanese market it was sold as Honda Vigor.


Variants


First generation of the Acura Vigor was sold in two body styles, either a three door hatchback or a 4 door sedan. In the engine range was composed of two 1.8 liter SOHC engines. The entry level was the 1751 cc engine that was from Hondas EK engine range. Total output of the engine was 95 hp @ 5300 rpm and a maximum torque of 103 lb/ft @ 3500 rpm. The other 1.8 liter had a displacement of 1830 cc, this engine belongs to Hondas ES engine family. This engine was more powerful, developing 109 hp @ 5800 rpm and 110 lb/ft of torque @ 3500 rpm. This engine could also be mated to either the standard five speed manual or the optional four speed automatic.


Some of the featured that differentiate the Acura Vigor from the Honda Accord were: cruise control, power windows, power steering, and trip computer (that displayed mileage, driving time, and fuel economy).


The 1.8 liter EK engine mated to the five speed manual returned a fuel economy of 31.7 miles per gallon in the city and 54.1 miles per gallon on highway. If fitted with the automatic, the car returns 25.9 miles per gallon in city and only 43.5 miles per gallon on highway.


The 1.8 liter ES engine, even though it was more powerful, it returned better fuel consumption. In city driving condition, with the manual gearbox, it returned 32 miles to the gallon and 27.3 miles to the gallon if fitted with the automatic. On the open road the manual version delivered 54.1 miles per gallon and the automatic returned 49.4 miles per gallon.
