Overview

The Cadillac SRX is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors under the Cadillac brand. The Cadillac SRX was introduced in 2004 and it targeted the luxury Crossover market. Production for the first generation Cadillac SRX lasted until 2009.

The Cadillac SRX was built on the General Motors Sigma platform and was available in rear-wheel drive, which was standard, and all-wheel drive, which was optional. The all-wheel drive system din not include low-range gearing.

Variants

The base engine offered on the Cadillac SRX was a 3.6-Litre V6 engine that produced 255 horsepower. The optional engine choice was the 4.6-Liter Northstar V8 engine that produced 320hp. Both engines were available either to the rear-wheel drive SRX or the all-wheel drive SRX. Transmission choices included a 5-speed automatic transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment on the first generation Cadillac SRX included 17 inch aluminum wheels, automatic dual-zone climate control, fog lights, heated mirrors, rear whiper, roorf rack side rails, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 60/40 folding rear seat, leather interior, eightway power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls and voice recognicion, rear parking assist, CD Player with seven speakers and automatic headlamps. The V8 model also has driver's side auto-dimming exterior mirror, 18 inch aluminum wheels, CD changer and many more. Magnetic Ride Control which automatically adjusts the suspension to compensate for any road imperfections and to offer a comfortable ride all the time.

In 2005 the Cadillac SRX received a towing package option that was available to the V6 model and to the V8 model as well. With this package installed tow capacity grew by half a ton. The gauge clusters were revised and now featured chrome accents.

In 2006 a power liftgate was standard on all Cadillac SRX vehicles.

In 2007 the dashboard was redesigned and the materials used on the interior were of much better quality.

In 2008 the Cadillac SRX did not suffer any changes.

In 2009 the Cadillac SRX suffered only some minor changes because the next year the car will be redesigned.

Additional Information

In crash tests conducted by the NHTSA the Cadillac SRX received a four star rating for driver protection in case of a frontal crash and also a four star rating for passanger protection in case of a frontal crash.

Troughout the years of production for the Cadillac SRX, the car encountered some problems, some of them being major problems, and so a number of cars were recalled to the factory.

In 2004 cars were recalled because the driver's frontal airbag or the roof-mounted side-impact airbag could deploy when ingnition key is turned to on position.

If one of the two accelerator-pedal return springs fails and temperature is -22 to -40 degrees (Farenheit), engine may not return to idle within the required three seconds, and greater brake-pedal force would be needed to stop the vehicle.

In some crash conditions, front seat could pivot rearward because one or both anchor tabs are not engaged in their slots.

Washers for ball stud assemblies on lower control arm of some cars could fracture; separation of control arm from its knuckle will cause a corner of the vehicle to drop, and control arm may contact the wheel, resulting in dragging action and unwanted tendency to turn.

Also in 2004 for the AWD model the antilock braking system may temporarily isolate driver from foundation brake system for up to 1.25 seconds, possibly increasing stopping distance.

For some of the SRX that were equipped with the automatic transmission the transmission shift lever can be moved from the "park" position with the ignition "on" and without the operator depressing the brake pedal or, in some cases, the shifter can be moved from the "park" position with the ignition turned "off."

In 2005 a left or right rear suspension toe link could separate, affecting vehicle control, which could result in a crash. Dealers will inspect the right and left toe link and replace as required.

On the cars produced from 2005 to 2007 the rear axle pinion seal may experience a fluid leak.
