Overview

The Alfa Romeo GT is a sports car manufactured by the Italian car maker Alfa Romeo, a division of the FIAT Group. The GT entered production in 2003 and was discontinued in 2010. The car was assembled at Alfa Romeo's plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, Italy. The car was positioned in the Alfa Romeo range along with the Brera grand tourer (based on the Alfa Romeo 159.)

Alfa Romeo built the GT on the same platform they used for the 147 compact car and the 156 entry level luxury car. The body was styled by Bertone and most mechanical were taken straight from the 156 and 147, the double wishbone front suspension and multilink rear setup were the same as those two cars. The interior was heavily influenced by the one seen in the 147, featuring many common parts.

Variants

The Alfa Romeo GT came with a range of four engines, three petrol and one diesel.

The entry level petrol engine had a 1.8 liter displacement and had a straight four configuration. The engine generated a total of 140 hp @ 6500 rpm and maximum of 120 lb/ft @ 3900 rpm. The engine was mated to a five speed manual transmission that delivered the power to the front wheels. In terms of performance the car was capable to run to 60 mph from zero in 10.2 seconds, cover a standing quarter mile in 17.3 seconds and get to a top speed of 142 mph. As for the fuel consumption the Alfa Romeo GT 1.8 returned an average of 26.5 miles to the gallon.

The midrange petrol model, featured a 2.0 liter straight four, which developed 165 hp @ 6400 rpm and maximum of 152 lb/ft of torque @ 3250 rpm. The engine came with a standard five speed manual transmission with a five speed semi-automatic offered as an option. The Alfa Romeo GT 2.0 could get from not to 60 mph in 8.4 sec / 8.4 sec (5MT / 5S-AT), cover a quarter mile from a standing start in 16.1 sec / 16.3 sec (5MT / 5S-AT) and get to a top speed of 136 mph / 133 mph (5MT / 5S-AT). On average the Alfa GT 2.0 returned 27 mpg (5MT & 5S-AT).

Top of the line in the petrol range was a 3.2 liter V6. The engine had a power output of 240 hp @ 6200 rpm and a maximum torque output of 221 lb/ft @ 4800 rpm. The engine was connected to a six speed manual transmission which was the only option. With this engine the Alfa GT was able to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds, cover a standing quarter mile in 14.4 seconds and do a top speed of 151 mph.
