Aston Martin V8 Zagato 1989 - 2000
Overview
The Aston martin Zagato is a grand tourer manufactured by Aston Martin and Zagato. The coupe variant was unveiled at the 1986 Geneva Motor Show and only a number of 98 Aston Martin V8 Zagatos were ever built from which 52 were coupes and 37 convertibles. Production for the V8 Zagato ended in 1990.
Variants
As the name suggests the V8 Zagato was heavily based on the Aston martin V8 but had a body developed by the famous Zagato coachbuilder. The design of the V8 Zagata was a modern interpretation od the Aston Martin DB4 Zagato from the 1960s. The most controversial feature of the car was the squared off grille.
The 1988 Aston Martin V8 Zagato has 225/70-R15 and 225/70-R15 specifications as standard tires. Ground clearance is 150 mm (5,87 inches), and wheelbase is 2620 mm (102,58 inches).
In the front the V8 Zagato was equipped with an independent suspension with coil springs and in the rear De Dion suspension with coil springs. It was equipped with a 5.3-Liter V8 engine that produced 432 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. The V8 Zagato accelerated from 0-60 mph in 5 seconds flat and ran the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds. The maximu speed redorded was 186 mph and fuel consuption was 14 mpg. In terms of performance the Aston Martin V8 Zagato was one of the most powerful supercars ever to be built in the United Kingdom.
When the Aston Martin V8 Zagato coupe was introduced it had a price tag of US$156,600 and by the end of the decade the car was changing hands for 450,000. The convertible model sold for US$171,000.
Additional Information
In 1998 a famous comedian, Rowan Atkinson, purchased the first right-hand drive car produced, chassis number 20013 and had it converted to Aston Martin Owners Club racing series C2 specification. Conversion was undertaken by Aston Martin Works Service and total rebuild cost was around 220,000 GBP. The famous Tadek Marek 5.3 V8 engine was reworked to produce an estimated 482 bhp (359 kW; 489 PS) carrying unique "580XR" designation. It retired racing in 2007 and Atkinson subsequently sold it at Aston Martin Bonhams auction in Newport Pagnell on May 17, 2008.
