Overview

The Aston Martin Rapide is a five door high-performance sports sedan manufactured by Aston Martin. The Aston martin Rapide was first presented as a concept car at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. The production model was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and it went in production in early 2010. The name Rapide is a referance to the Lagonda Rapide, a sedan built by Lagonda. The Aston martin Rapide is built at a dedicated plant at the Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria.

Variants

The Aston Martine Rapide is offered in two trim levels, the base Rapide and Luxe. Both models are powered by a 6.0-Liter V12 engine that produces 470 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted shift pedals. In performance test the Rapide accelerated to 60 mph from standstill in 5 seconds flat and reached a maximum speed of 184 mph. The quarter mile was ran in 13.2 seconds and fuel consumption is 15 mpg.

Standard equipment on the Aston Martin Rapide includes 20-inch cast-aluminum wheels, adaptive dampers, a limited-slip differential, bi-xenon headlamps, front and rear parking sensors, power outside mirrors, front and rear automatic climate control, power front seats with memory functions, heated front and rear seats, a full leather interior, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth, a hard-drive navigation system and a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with a CD player, an iPod/USB audio interface, an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio.

The Rapide Deluxe adds special wheels, standard ventilated front and rear seats, a secondary glass-trimmed key fob, glass switchgear, a rear-seat entertainment system, a six-piece bespoke luggage set that matches the interior leather, and custom paint and leather colors.

Optional features on both the base and the Luxe models are, Twin screen rear seat, entertainment system with 6-disc DVD player, auxiliary input, wireless headphones and remote control, Alternative facial trim finishes (Mahogany, Piano Black, Bamboo, Tamo Ash, Double,Apex Alloy, Nexus Alloy), Matching wood door trim, Colour-keyed steering wheel, Second glass key, Magnum silver rear lamp infills, Delete model badging, Delete protective tape, 20” 20-spoke alloy wheels with graphite diamond turned finish, 20” Multi-spoke alloy wheels with silver diamond turned finish, 20” Multi-spoke alloy wheels with graphite diamond turned finish, Alternative brake calliper finish (black, red, silver), Personalized sill plaques, Auto dimming interior rear view mirror with garage door opener (Europe only), Alarm upgrade,
Ashtray and Cigar Lighter.

Standard safety features on the Rapide include antilock disc brakes, brake assist, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. Front and rear parking sensors are also included.

Additional Information

In 2010 an Aston martin Rapide was entered in the 24 Hours Nurburgring race. Drivers included Aston martin CEO Ulrich BEZ. The Rapide finished second in the SP 8 class.
